La Casona del Son is one of Havana's best-known dance schools, set in a fully restored 1715 colonial house in the heart of Old Havana. Founded in 2011 by Barcelona-born director Silvia Canals, it teaches traditional Cuban dances - son, salsa, cha-cha-cha, rumba, rueda de casino and folklore, plus bachata and kizomba - across six classrooms to visitors from around the world. The school runs roughly 152 classes every week covering all genres and levels, open Monday to Saturday, with private and group formats that students can join on any day. Its teachers also drive the annual Ritmo Cuba international festival, making it a year-round hub for learning authentic Cuban dance at the source.
