The Congreso Mundial de la Salsa is the event credited with creating the modern salsa-congress format, and in 2026 it celebrates its 30th anniversary in San Juan, Puerto Rico. To mark three decades the organizers expanded the program into 'Destino Salsa 2026', a month-long cultural-tourism platform themed '30 Años, 30 Noches, 30 Historias' that spreads salsa nights, folklore and live music across the island through July. The main congress finale takes place July 30 to August 1, 2026 at the Fairmont El San Juan Hotel & Casino in Isla Verde, with workshops in salsa, bachata and bomba folklore plus competitions, exhibitions and orchestra concerts. Passes are tiered across the weekend, drawing elite dancers, instructors and fans from around the world.
